We run a working croft with various
breeds of sheep some of which are classed as rare breeds.
The sheep are hand sheared and various garments are
made from these fleeces and sold in the shop. Only the
natural colour of the fleece is used. Some garments
are hand carded , spun and knit, others are machine
knitted using our own wool. We also keep chickens and
ducks on the croft and free range eggs are usually available.
These farming activities do not impinge
on the shop which is situated in the old croft house.
This building has been sympathetically renovated to
retain much of its original features including the old
stone walls and is set in a landscaped garden.
Beverley specialises in images of the natural world
and designs bird, flower, and animal illustrations on
glass and pottery as well as more abstract images. We
will soon be increasing the pottery on offer, all made
and fired on the croft.
The painted glass is dried for 24 hours
and then fired in an over at 160o°C for 40 minutes.
The resulting painting is durable and hand washable
and will give a long life of service. She paints on
candles, all types of drinking glasses, vases, coasters,
and bowls. She also produces a range of cards from her
designs.
She is quite happy to do commissions to a customer's
own requirements and will mail order.
Using John's photographs we make mounted
and framed prints, notelets and cards, rulers and book
marks, jigsaws and fridge magnets. John makes his own
frames and does bespoke picture framing. He specialises
in local views, flowers and images from the croft.
In the shop we also sell several ranges
of jewellery, candles, pottery and cards. Where possible
we try to buy hand crafted and Scottish crafts. We take
credit and debit cards. |
